high deficit, but the entry of 3 Centrals is expected

The situation of the blackouts in Cuba today once again indicates another day in the dark, according to this Saturday’s report from the Electrical Union (UNE). Despite the high deficit, the authorities expect that three plants will come into operation during peak hours.

According to the daily report, yesterday the service was affected due to a deficit in generation capacity 24 hours a day and the maximum impact was 1,394 MW at 8:10 p.m. As usual, the actual deficit was higher than expected. What will the deficit and blackouts be like in Cuba today?

Unit 2 of the CTE Felton and unit 5 of the CTE Rente are in breakdown. While units 1 and 3 of the CTE Santa Cruz, unit 6 of the CTE Nuevitas, unit 1 of the CTE Felton and unit 8 of the CTE Mariel are under maintenance. And 39 distributed generation plants were out of service due to fuel, with 307 MW affected by this concept.

“With this forecast, an availability of 2,481 MW and a maximum demand of 3,150 MW are estimated for peak hour, for a deficit of 669 MW, so if the forecast conditions continue, an impact of 739 MW is forecast during this time.” , they specify.

Blackouts in Cuba today

Although the electricity deficit is high and the long blackouts in Cuba will continue today, the UNE authorities gave some hope of improvements with the entry of three power plants.

“For the peak, the entry of Distributed Generation engines that are awaiting maintenance and their use is authorized with 100 MW, the entry of 3 engines in the Melones basin with 45 MW, the entry of unit 5 of the CTE Rente with 60 MW (in the start-up process), the entry of unit 6 of the CTE Diez de Octubre with 100 MW (in the start-up process), the entry of unit 8 of the CTE Mariel with 80 MW (in startup process)”, they pointed out.

Likewise, they specified that unit 4 of Energas Jaruco should also enter with 30 MW and the entry of Distributed Generation engines that are out of fuel with 100 MW.

This weekend, with these forecasts, should be better than what happened the rest of the week. A real relief?
