4th Indian arrested in Nijjar murder case: Student from Punjab held in Canada | Indian News

The Canadian police have arrested a fourth Indian national for the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar outside a gurudwara in British Columbia last June.

According to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) of the province, Amandeep Singh, aged 22, was already under Peel Regional Police custody in Ontario for unrelated firearms charges.

The Canadian Press reported that an IHIT release said their investigation led to sufficient evidence for the BC Prosecution Service to charge Amandeep Singh with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

The accused, identified as an Indian national, divides his time between Brampton, Ontario, Surrey, and Abbotsford, British Columbia.

IHIT said due to ongoing investigations and legal proceedings, further details of the arrest cannot be disclosed at this time.

Festive offer

Previous arrests include three other Indian nationalitiesKaran Brar, Kamalpreet Singh, and Karanpreet Singh, who were apprehended in Edmonton and charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in Nijjar’s death.

These incidents have prompted increased scrutiny of Canada’s international student permit process, particularly after revelations regarding a video posted in 2019 by an India-based immigration consultancy featuring Brar, indicating his study visa’s arrival, accompanied by a photo displaying what appeared to be a study permit.

When questioned about the immigration status of the suspects, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada refrained from commenting, citing the confidentiality of ongoing investigations and individual cases.
