Given the wave of attacks that occurred last year by climate activists and against works of art, museums have reinforced their security measures. The level of demand when entering the most emblematic spaces is high, because only in this way can they prevent harmful products from being thrown at ancient paintings. The Orsay Museum is an example of these measures, as it has just stopped what could have ended in disaster.. Two people were arrested this Sunday at the entrance to the Parisian space, suspected of having allegedly wanted to damage “The Poppies”, a work by Monet.

The Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed to “Le Parisien” that they are charged with attempted destruction of cultural property. The detainees set off alarm bells by carrying with them a viscous “white liquid”, similar to glue, as well as T-shirts from the activist group that already threw soup at the Mona Lisa at the Louvre in January 2023. “Food response” is the name of said organization, and are defined as “a French civil resistance campaign that aims to bring about radical change in society at a climatic and social level.” According to a source told “Le Figaro”, these two people, in addition, “are already known for previous acts of obstruction of traffic.”

This climate movement not only poured soup on the Mona Lisa, but also attacked “Spring”, a painting by Monet that is on display at the Museum of Fine Arts in Lyon.
