Spain celebrates the 10th Book Fair in the capital of Honduras to promote reading

Tegucigalpa, April 27 (EFE).- The Cultural Center of Spain in Tegucigalpa (CCET) inaugurated this Saturday the tenth Book Fair in the capital of Honduras with the participation of 25 publishers and eleven independent authors, in order to promote reading among Hondurans, mainly among the youngest.

The CCET programming coordinator, Karla Chévez, told EFE that the fair seeks to promote reading among the population and the literary industry, within the framework of International Book Day, which is celebrated every April 23.

“The idea of the fair is to promote both the habit of reading and literary production, that is, writing, because we also seek to promote authors who are writing, publishing and who can come and sell their books,” he stressed.

This edition of the fair takes place in the Redondel de los Artesanos, a space conditioned for several years by the Cultural Center for cultural events.

Chévez indicated that the fair also seeks to “bring closer” the public to bookstores, publishers and independent authors.

At least 35 bookstores and publishers participate in the fair, which has been held since 2015, including Santillana, which is among the most important in the Central American country.

Melissa Ham, Santillana Marketing Coordinator, agreed with Chévez, emphasizing that the fair is an opportunity for bookstores to “get closer” to the public and encourage reading at an early age.

“We are very happy that these types of spaces are created, in which all families can come to accompany their children and create the habit of reading in them from a very young age,” Ham said in statements to EFE.

Likewise, the fair seeks to “sow a seed of literature” in families, said Ham, who highlighted the importance of promoting reading in the little ones so that they can “create universes.”

In addition to Santillana, the bookstores Tinta y Letras, San Antonio, Navarro, Sedesol, Diógenes, Luciérnaga Poética, Efímera, Tecolote, Universitaria, E-Books and Guaymuras, among others, participate in the fair.

Independent authors who will present their latest works also accompany the fair.

In addition to buying and selling books, new and used, the public will be able to enjoy multiple entertainments including presentations, poetry readings and various children’s activities, as well as gastronomy and music.

Today’s day will close with a conversation between prominent storytellers from Brazil, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Panama, and a Jazz and Rap concert.
