A Sunday with verses, comics and a Planet finalist

A new day of success and public attendance on Sunday afternoon at the ‘Cuenca Lee’ 2024 Book Fair, both in the Plaza de España, where Alfonso Goizueta, finalist for the Planeta Prize, and Rebeca Stones signed copies, and in the rest of the spaces that have hosted any of the events.

Among them, the Poetic Musical Meeting hosted by the Provincial Council, in which the Chamber Choir ‘Vokalis Femina’, directed by María Jesús López Bermejo, performed in society and in which they performed various musical pieces. An event organized by the ‘Poetry for Shipwrecked’ Cultural Association, presented by Rafael Escobar and in which texts were recited by José Ángel García and Francisco Mora.

The same space hosted the presentation of the book ‘Olcade, chronicles of the wolf’, by Sebastián Martínez, led by the mayor of Cuenca, Darío Dolz. It is the first volume of a trilogy that mixes history and intrigue and in which the author delves into Pre-Roman Iberia.

Also the children’s story ‘My grandmother has elves in her head’, by Nuria Torrijos Moreno and illustrated by András Kresák, published by the Provincial Council. An emotional story with which the author shows the little ones, in an imaginative, close and understandable way, a reality as complex as Alzheimer’s, and for whose writing she has based herself on her personal story. A book that has been presented by the Councilor and Deputy for Culture, María Ángeles Martínez, and whose funds raised from its sale will go entirely to the Cuenca Alzheimer’s Association ‘Afyedalcu’.

Cartoon Day II

The Assembly Hall of the Aguirre Cultural Center was another of the nerve centers this Sunday afternoon, a space that hosted the second edition of Cartoon Day, coordinated by the cartoonist and illustrator Mateo Guerrero.

An event that has included talks with Daniel Acuña about the American experience and with Julio Serrano about the script in comics, and which has culminated with a round table on Spanish comics with César Verdúguez and Lolita Aldea.

Other acts

To these events we must add the children’s artistic workshops carried out by the Antonio Pérez Foundation, as well as the performances by the ASaltos circus and the Rondadores musical group.
