The writer and historian Esther López Barceló will present her books this Friday in the conference room of the Casa de Cultura «The art of invoking memory. Anatomy of an open wound” and “Quan ja no quede none”in an activity framed in the Democratic Memory programming of the Xàtiva City Council.

In “The art of invoking memory,” Barceló gives an account of the power of collective memory through its multiple representations and materialities: opersonal objects found in foundries, fleeting graffiti as an emergency epitaph or scales transformed into expert evidence. This essay, written in a delicate poetic tone, weaves a journey through the different ways of invoking the memory of an open wound, that of the victims of Francoism – and other dictatorships – through archaeological remains and cultural artifacts that connect us with last.

On the other hand«Quan ja no quede nú» andIt is the author’s first novel and it has already captivated critics and the public. A story about the love, dignity and strength of post-war women who emerged as guardians of memory in the face of official silence. A close story that hurts the heart because it brings together thousands of stories: those of the humble and hard-working people who suffered defeat, but also those of the fear that was perpetuated for generations.

Esther López Barceló was born in Alicante in 1983 and was dimputed in the Valencian Cortes from 2011 to 2015. Es teacher, writer and cultural disseminator. Graduated in History with a specialization in Archaeology, her commitment to democratic memory has marked her political, literary and activist career. She is the author of the non-fiction book «The Conquest of the Cities (Icaria), and has collaborated in media outlets such as La Marea, À Punt Radio, eldiario.es, Valencia Plaza, Público, Adiós Cultural or El País Moda.
