SANTO DOMINGO.- Journalist Héctor J.Cruz will publicly present his new book, biography of Winston –Chilote –Llenas.

The work is called El Chilote, Glory of Dominican Baseball, and details Chilote’s entire career as a player, manager, manager, president of the Eagles and baseball executive in general.

Chilote was also a major league coach with the Toronto Blue Jays, and a scout for the Cleveland Indians for almost ten years. He is currently president ad-vitam of the Eagles and vice president of Lidom.

The book will be presented this Wednesday at the León Cultural Center in Santiago, together with the documentary of the same name. This is a double product in honor of Chilote, who has one of the most complete and beautiful stories of Dominican baseball.

Chilote signed as a professional in 1960 for the Kansas City Athletics (defunct), then he was released and the following year he signed with the California Angels.

He debuted with the Angels in 1968 and participated for six seasons in the major leagues as an alternate and emerging player.

At the same time, he developed as a star player in the Dominican league with the Aguilas Cibaeñas, with whom he debuted in 1963.

Cruz, sports editor of Listin Diario and producer of the TV program La Hora del Deporte, has published 24 titles, all about sports, with 65 editions.

Includes biographies of Juan Marichal in 1983, the same year he was inducted into the Cooperstown Hall of Fame. Also, Sammy Sosa, and the boxer Fausto Ceja Rodríguez, one of the most charismatic that this sport has had in the country.

Other publications by Cruz, in baseball, are related to Dominican winter baseball yearbooks, the Dominicans in the Major Leagues, and the RD in the Caribbean Series.

Likewise, he has published multiple books on the history of Dominican baseball, about the Dominican Republic in the Central American and Caribbean, Pan American and Olympic Games. Cruz is immortal of Dominican sports, exalted in 2022.

On the film side, he has been executive producer of documentaries about the Estrellas Orientales, the Gigantes del Cibao, Felix Fermin, RD at the 2018 Barranquilla Games, and the Dominican Olympic medalists of all time.

The Chilote Llenas documentary that will be released publicly this Wednesday, at the same time as the book, is 80 minutes long. It will be presented at an event at 6 pm at the León Center.

It is 80 minutes long, and former Aguilas players participate, such as Tony Peña and Luis Poland, as well as managers of the Aguilucho team.

Chilote has been present, in some role, in 21 of the 22 crowns achieved by the Eagles to this moment.

The script of the documentary has been written by journalist Tuto Tavarez, and the narration is by Kevin Cabral. Journalist Rolando Eduardo Fermín also participated in the production, as well as Marino Vázquez on cameras. The edition is by Fernando Pérez Popoter.

For this Wednesday’s event, Lidom has arranged a bus for journalists from Santo Domingo who wish to attend. The game will be at 3 in the afternoon at the Quisqueya stadium.
