Copenhagen, April 29 (EFECOM).- The Ørsted company, Denmark’s main energy group and one of the main promoters of offshore wind energy in the world, announced this Monday an agreement for the sale of its business in France to the French capital group Engie.

Ørsted, who did not give figures, justified the operation, which will close during the second quarter, as part of its “strategic prioritization” of other European markets for terrestrial renewables.

The Danish group’s investments in France, which also include solar energy, consist of 54 operational megawatts and another 24 in wind projects under construction.

“As part of our updated business plan, we reviewed our ambitions for 2030 with an emphasis on where we believe we can achieve the most value. Based on this, we decided to concentrate our effort on the UK, Ireland, Germany and Spain markets to terrestrial wind and solar energy,” the firm said in a statement.

Ørsted, whose main shareholder is the Danish State, had announced in February, after presenting a net annual loss of more than 2.7 billion euros, a program to cut up to 800 jobs and the abandonment of several offshore wind markets, such as Norway, Portugal and Spain.

The reason was the cancellation last November of two offshore wind projects in the United States, which caused an asset impairment of 28.4 billion Danish crowns (3.807 million euros). EFECOM
