Today, Nissan has established itself as a highly recognized brand globally and of course in Colombia. The Japanese manufacturer arrived in the country since the last century and currently, they are still present in the Colombian market. Of course, all this happened when two men full of dreams decided to bring a specific model. Then Distribuidora Nissan or as we know it today DINISSAN was born. Although perhaps today, the Japanese brand is not the strongest in Colombia, it is still part of the top 10 of the best-selling brands in the country. So today, we will see how Nissan arrived in Colombia and all its growth over the years.

The founding of DINISSAN in Colombia, the dream of two men

It all started more than 50 years ago, in 1960, when Octavio Villegas and Martín Vargas joined together. They both had a lot of dreams and finally decided to make them come true. His idea was to be able to start marketing the brand’s campers and that’s how this started. Then, on February 7, this adventure began for both of them, with the creation of the Nissan Distributor in Bogotá. This first headquarters was located on 30th Street and 6th Street. Thus began this journey that undoubtedly changed the country with the arrival of the Nissan campers. Furthermore, they came to compete in a market where other brands already had a presence.

Although there were only 8 people who were in charge of this project, they worked tirelessly for the dream. In their first headquarters, they worked so hard that little by little the country became familiar with the Nissan brand. In addition, they managed to position themselves as one of the largest companies in the country in the automotive sector. An achievement that was the result of so much effort they had invested. However, this organization did not only want to stay in the brand’s camper market. In 1970, there was great growth when John Deere machinery began to be marketed in Colombia.

But things did not stop there, as this project would continue to grow over time. This is how Talleres Autorizados SA started in 1984. The purpose of this new project was to provide support to the brand’s customers. This would undoubtedly improve brand support for those who trusted and bought with them. But before the end of the century, projects would continue to be born. In 1997 Autoensamble Nissan was born, focused on the assembly of vehicles for public service, but which in its voice strengthened the company’s Diesel line. Finally, in 1998, Com Automotriz was opened and thus they also got into the second-hand car business.

The arrival of the new century and the expansion of the Nissan Distributor

The company had closed the last century with notable growth. What began with the dream of bringing campers had expanded to other segments of the automotive sector. This was undoubtedly a sign of the great expansion and success that the brand was having in Colombia. But things did not stop there, since the growth of this type of company is inevitable. In 2010, the first showcase of ZNA – Zhengzhou Nissan Automobile was opened. But as we have already seen, this great company always seeks to expand into new segments and cover new businesses.

This is how in 2011, they are a machinery business line, carrying the brands LeeBoy, Rosco and Triaso. For those who do not know, these 3 brands are dedicated to the marketing of asphalt and paving machines. In 2013, and after so much time, they managed to consolidate the organization as a business group. Since then, the expansion has not slowed down and although some brands have stopped representing them, others have also arrived. DINISSAN undoubtedly continues to be very influential in the automotive world.

4 years ago marked 60 years since its foundation. They currently have more than 30 points of sale for Nissan brand vehicles. On the other hand, they have 35 after-sales service points, which provides a better experience to customers. What one day started as a dream of bringing branded campers, today is a tremendous success in Colombia. DINISSAN is undoubtedly a very influential company in the automotive sector that will surely continue to be so for years.
