Warning that they would not be ‘useful fools’, the conservative representative Wadith Manzur came out in defense of his party’s participation in the plenary sessions of the health reform.

In the discussion on November 23, 2023, the congressman was upset by the accusations towards the community when making a quorum. so that the vote on the now defeated reform could go ahead.

“They have wanted to turn us into the useful fools of the walk: When we leave the premises to damage the quorum, there are other Parties that stay voting and then they say that the Conservative party is lukewarm because it did not vote NO. When we stayed voting NO, then the Conservative Party remained quorum,” claimed the parliamentarian.

I didn’t know at that time that six months later the former director of the Risk Management Unit (Ungrd), Olmedo López, would reveal that he was one of those ‘sold’ in the corruption network that involved the payment of millionaire bribes in exchange for them being supported the executive reforms in Congress.

In fact, in the November plenary session, Manzur himself justified the meetings with the Minister of the Interior, Luis Fernando Velasco.

“When we We met with the Minister of the Interior, we are negotiating, but when other Parties meet with the National Government they are building the great National Agreement. This party deserves respect and I invite you, Secretary, to certify how the different parties have voted and to tell Colombia who are the ones who have remained in quorum so that they do not come to slander us,” he agreed.

On that occasion, the representative explained that in effect they remained quorum, but to vote ‘no’ on health reform.

“This party is respected, we will not be anyone’s useful fools, we will no longer be the wild card. Our position is clear, we do NOT support the Reform,” he concluded.

Last week, when Olmedo López revealed that Manzur was a ‘sellout’, the congressman came out in defense of his good name and announced a complaint against López for the crime of aggravated slander, warning that “it intends generate chaos seeking to benefit.”

Said the representative who has the “full certainty” that the former director of the Ungrd “lies to the country” and with that method “he intends to generate chaos, seeking to benefit and build his principle of opportunity and not pay a single day in jail.”

Additionally, he asked the Supreme Court of Justice to investigate his conduct and call López to testify in order to clarify the facts: “Lying before the media is not the same as lying before the courts. “Whoever lies about the latter will incur the crime of false testimony.”
