Mexico City, May 24 (EFECOM).- The Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) advanced this Monday a marginal 0.07% in its main indicator, reaching 55,452.88 units, to break a streak of six sessions closing in negative , in a session of low trading volume before the closing of stock markets in the United States and the United Kingdom.

“In the capital market, gains were observed since the Asian session, after the publication of positive economic indicators in China,” the director of Economic and Financial Analysis at Banco Base, Gabriela Siller, explained to EFE.

He recalled that this Monday the financial markets did not operate in the United States and the United Kingdom, which reduced liquidity in the financial markets in other countries.

In Mexico, said the expert, the Price and Quotation Index (IPC), the main indicator of the BMV, “showed a gain of 0.07%, in a session with low operating volume, with 83.53% below of the average of the last 100 days”.

For his part, the director of Economic Analysis at Grupo Financiero Actinver, Enrique Covarrubias, explained that this Monday “the CPI practically remained unchanged.”

In addition, he said that with this movement “the Mexican index registers a decline of -3.4% so far in 2024.”

On the day, the peso appreciated 0.23% against the dollar, trading at 16.65 units per greenback, after 16.69 on the previous day, according to data from the Bank of Mexico.

The IPC closed the session at 55,452.88 units, with a gain of 39.76 points and a positive variation of 0.07% compared to the previous day.

The volume traded in the market reached 42.8 million securities for an amount of 2,184 million pesos (about 131 million dollars).

Of the 201 firms that traded on the day, 85 ended with their prices rising, 97 had losses and 19 closed unchanged.

The securities with the greatest upward variation were from the company Value Grupo Financiero (VALUEGF O), with -15%; of the mining company Frisco (MFRISCO A-1), with -3.45%, and of the wood and paper products company TEAK (TEAK CPO), with -2.36%.

In contrast, the largest downward variations were from the chemical products distributor Alpek (ALPEK A), with -4.26%; of the El Puerto de Liverpool department store chain (LIVEPOL C-1), with -2.7%, and of the Grupo Carso industrial consortium (GCARSO A1) with 2.46%.

During the day, three of the four sectors fell, industrial (-0.29%), frequent consumption (-0.25%) and materials (-0.11%), and one advanced, financial (0.7%). EFECOM
