Producer Tony Succar hopes that with his video that went viral about a complaint against the municipality of San Isidro, for having canceled a show for his mother Mimy, there is more seriousness towards the work of artists. Furthermore, he commented that he just produced an album for Sheila E where he recorded with Rubén Blades, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Gloria Estefan and others. Likewise, he will release he has been working on a new album and will present a documentary about his mother.

“I grew up in the United States and they always work very legally, that’s why I made the video because my mother’s show was canceled after having hired musicians and rehearsed. But musicians in Peru tell me that this happens every day and no one says anything because they are afraid and that is sad. I think my video is the voice of many people for things to change, I hope it has a positive impact”, said Tony Succar.

Outside of these setbacks, how are you doing musically?

Everything is going great, we recently went on a small tour in Colombia and now we have to prepare an important presentation at the Lincoln Center in New York.

The album ‘A Bailar’ by Sheila E has just been released, where you have been the producer…

Yes, that album was just released where I was a producer. Sheila E She is a percussionist who lives in Los Angeles, she has a star in Hollywood and she wanted to make her first salsa album and we have had great artists like Rubén Blades, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Víctor Manuelle, Gloria Estefan, Luis Enrique, José Alberto ‘El Canario’ and my mom Mimy Succar. It was the first time she worked with Blades and Gilberto; and I feel grateful for that trust.

You mentioned recently that you were working on a new album, how is the process going?

Well, I’m already starting to work on it… I have three things coming up this year. First there will be the launch of a live album that was recorded at the Grand National Theatre, it will be audio and video, and it is tremendous. In addition, I have produced some songs from the new album The Orchestra of Light which will be released in May for its 40th anniversary.

You have no rest…

Something like that, and the third thing is that we will release a documentary that will be seen in theaters about my mother’s project, which should come out in September.

Will your next album have some collaborations with Peruvian singers?

I’m working on it, writing the songs, I prefer to finish them and then see which voice could fit best; but of course I would like to work with Peruvian singers. This album will come with a lot of rumba, salsa with fusions, with Peruvian influence, from the cajon that I love.

Between classic and romantic sound…

Yes, progressive salsa, some romantic, fusing with American pop, always looking for a new sound and not doing more of the same. Furthermore, I want to return to what brought me to light in the world, even if people think it was when I won the Latin Grammys; but before that I did the tribute to Michael Jackson and it’s already been ten years. So, I’ve started researching some new topics and there will be a variety.
