Letizia Ortiz left her apartment in Madrid neighborhood of Valdebernardo just a few days before she made public her marriage commitment to the Prince of Asturias. The then journalist, she had acquired this home after the separation from her first husband, Alonso Guerrero Pérez.

In October 2003, as the magazine points out Weekthe Queen permanently left the community where he lived, a complex made up of more than a hundred apartments in Vicálvaro. At that time, Letizia worked as a professional at TVE. The now queen closed the door to her home for the last time and, before leaving, she said goodbye to the building’s janitor.

Letizia’s move had a shade of surprise both for the janitor and for the neighbors. When saying goodbye to the guard, he told her that he was going on a work trip, something that surprised her, since he had several suitcases with him. In reality, he was heading to the Prince’s Pavilion, located in Zarzuela, which until then had been the space designated for the privacy of Felipe VI.

The house was a flat 85 square meters, located in an urbanization that included a swimming pool and tennis court. The residents of the place pointed out at the time that the then journalist did not usually frequent the common areas of the urbanization.

Later, this floor became focus of media attention and a meeting point for journalists and curious people interested in Ortiz’s life before her marriage to the current King of Spain.

After Letizia left her single apartment, the house became home of Erika Ortiz, her little sister, after ending her relationship with Antonio Vigo. At this address she lived with her daughter, Carla Vigo. According to the neighbors at the time, Paloma Rocasolana frequently came to visit her then only granddaughter.

Three years and three months later, on February 7, 2007, the Queen’s sister was found lifeless at 31 years old inside the house. One of the hardest episodes that the monarch has had to face, which also coincided with the final stretch of her second pregnancy.

After this news, Letizia wanted to get rid of the apartment and put it up for sale. In June 2008, a family acquired it for a value of 230,000 euros. The new owners carried out a complete renovation to adapt it to their needs. Despite having received proposals from different media, the tenants have never appeared in the press, they have remained anonymous and have refused to talk about the former home of the Queen of Spain. As far as is known, this house has been inhabited by a single family since 2008.
