The curious story of how Eva Longoria became a Hollywood star

Eva Longoria never dreamed of being a Hollywood actress. In fact, she grew up being the black sheep of the family, as she has said in different interviews, but a beauty pageant changed her life.

This week, Eva Longoria spoke with the Spanish influencer Vicky Martín on the podcast “A solas con”, in which she told how she became one of the most influential actresses in the Latin community.

It all started when Eva was very young, she was studying her last year of university and needed money to cover her expenses. “I wanted to finish my studies, but my mother told me that they no longer had money to help me. I had already run out of my student financial aid resources, so a friend advised me to enter a beauty pageant,” Longoria said in that interview.

Longoria did not take her friend’s advice seriously because her entire life she grew up with the idea that she was not as pretty or pretty as her sisters. However, her desire to finish her studies won out. “I went to see the awards and I was content with winning fourth place. That was enough for me. And I asked life to let me reach that position. But I won,” continued the 49-year-old actress.

When Eva told her mother that she was going to participate in the contest, the woman did not trust her, because she did not believe that this was the best path for her. However, she took first place with everything and crown.

“No one was there to see me win. “I was alone,” she narrated. “Thanks to that award I was able to pay for my studies because I had like eight jobs to pay for college,” she added.

According to the mother of little Santiago, who is almost six years old, in order to pay his debt he was a dentist’s assistant, a lawyer’s assistant, he changed the oil in cars and other things. “Thanks to this award, I stopped working and was able to finish my studies.”

However, her work as a beauty queen continued much to her chagrin, and the following year she took the title of ‘Miss Corpus Christi’, where she won a trip to Hollywood.

“I’m very lucky, but I was also ready to take the opportunities. I had never left Texas. So when they told me I was going to California, I left and never came back,” Eva continued.

Already established in Los Angeles, the young woman spoke to her mother to tell her that she wanted to be an actress and, therefore, needed her to send her all her clothes. Mrs. Ella couldn’t believe it, but she saw that her daughter was so sure that she let her dream come true.

“I was ready to work as a waitress or whatever to survive in California,” said Eva, who 25 years later has positioned herself as one of the most famous actresses on television.

But Eva has not stayed only in acting. She is also a producer thanks to her production company UnbeliEVAble Entertainment, where she has done projects such as “Tierra de Mujeres”, which premieres this year on Apple TV+, “John Wick” and the documentary series “Eva Longoria: Searching for Mexico”.

She also has a foundation that helps Latina women in the United States position themselves in the labor market and find a voice.

She is married to Mexican businessman Pepe Bastón, her third husband, and together they have a son.

Ah! And, not to forget, she is a beauty ambassador for L’Óreal.

Although she thought she was not pretty enough to win a beauty pageant, Eva Longoria always knew she would be successful, and she succeeded.
