Pope Francis plans to meet with comedians from around the world

Whoopi Goldberg herself is confirmed at the meeting.

Pope Francis, who says he regularly prays “Lord, give me a sense of humor,” will meet on June 14 with comedians from around the world, including American actress Whoopi Goldberg, the Vatican reported. That same day, Francis will attend the summit of heads of state of the seven great democracies (G7) in Apulia.

The Vatican released an extensive list of actors expected to meet with Francis on Friday, including British comedian Stephen Merchant – co-writer and co-director of the television series “The Office” – and American talk show host Conan O’Brien. and the Italian comedian Lino Banfi.

“The meeting between the Pope and the world’s comedians aims to celebrate the beauty of human diversity and promote a message of peace, love and solidarity,” the Vatican said.

Goldberg commented last month in an interview that she had offered the Pope a cameo in “Change of Habits 3,” in which she will reprise her comic role as a singer who takes refuge in a convent and organizes a choir.

“He told me he would see how the time was,” Goldberg said jokingly when asked if the Pope had accepted his offer.
