The species to be evaluated are: equidae, swine, sheep, goats, bovines and buffaloes, backyard birds and aquatic animals; in which he included chapter II, which talks about the evaluation of the welfare of backyard animals in Colombia.
In this context, the ICA has been promoting animal welfare in primary production, considering the evaluation of the welfare conditions of the animals of the different species of economic interest in the country to be of great importance.
In compliance with article 4 of Resolutions 136 and 253 of 2020 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, “By which the manual of animal welfare conditions specific to each of the species of production in the agricultural sector is adopted for the species equidae, swine, sheep, goats, bovines and buffaloes, poultry and aquatic animals”, which are already in force, and in which this article indicates that the ICA will design and implement a methodology for the evaluation of the conditions of animal welfare that contains measurable indicators and their assessment.
The construction of these animal welfare evaluation methodologies for the mentioned species responds to the basic principles of repeatability, ease and contains measurable indicators, which make it possible to obtain an objective diagnosis regarding welfare.
