Dean of the UCN Faculty of Medicine Giselle Myer Morales, at the start of academic activities 2024, also highlighting the contribution to the health of the region.

Students, teachers and authorities attended the ceremony for the Start of Academic Activities 2024 of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Católica del Norte, an event in which they reflected on the milestones of 2023 and the projections for the new year.
During the ceremony, Dr. Giselle Myer Morales, Dean of the UCN Faculty of Medicine, took stock of the main achievements, highlighting the celebration of 20 years of the Academic Unit, which involved activities with a direct impact on the regional community, such as the EXPO FAMED UCN, an instance in which hundreds of health evaluations were carried out in the field, a pediatric operation in which specialists from the UCN Medical Centers treated 20 minors. In addition, he highlighted the solidarity campaign for Hogar Redes, the workshops for algueros and algueros of Changa Beach and the health and nutritional advice to the Coquimbo Municipal Shelter.
Likewise, he highlighted the effort that the accreditation of the Medical School has represented, a key instance to account for the quality and excellence of the doctors who for 20 years have been trained under the UCN Faculty of Medicine.
Regarding the challenges, the authority highlighted the project “Strengthening the Unit’s Performance Level through a Curricular Harmonization and Research Plan at the UCN Faculty of Medicine”, a project through which the curriculum is being redesigned in the careers in Nursing, Kinesiology, Medicine and Nutrition and Dietetics, a process that represents the ability to adapt to the new demands of a rapidly changing world.
“The future is in our hands and it awaits us with great challenges. Let us continue to demonstrate our commitment and continue to contribute with vocation to the health of our community. Feel proud to be part of our Faculty of Medicine. We are and will continue to be the main training entity for future Health professionals,” stated Myer.

With the beginning of the academic year, a new cycle of excellent training begins for the country’s future health professionals who graduate from the UCN, who will have the opportunity to obtain the necessary knowledge to put their vocation at the service of the entire community. just as the 1943 graduates have done during the two decades of history of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Católica del Norte.

As is tradition, during the ceremony for the start of academic activities, recognition was given to representatives of the FAMED community who stood out during 2023 for embodying the UCN values ​​and principles.

-Outstanding Student 2022 of the Nursing Career: Kenneth Yardland Álvarez Araya.
-Outstanding Student 2022 of the Kinesiology Career: Catalina Alejandra Gálvez Arancibia
-Outstanding Student 2022 of the Medical Career: Sergio Ignacio Rubina Andrade
-Outstanding Student 2022 of the Nutrition and Dietetics major: Francisca Belén Paredes Díaz
-Featured Teachers Department of Clinics: Nursing, Cynthia Fernanda Abarca Vivanco; Kinesiology, Alejandro Ricardo Miled Jorratt Luna; Medicine, Nelson Vladimir Zepeda Pérez; Nutrition and Dietetics, Juan Manuel Serín López.
-Outstanding Academic Department of Biomedical Sciences: Valentina Fernanda Rivas Guajardo.
-Outstanding Academic Department of Public Health: Pamela Solange Sepúlveda Oyarce.
-Outstanding Official of the Academy Support Staff of the Faculty of Medicine 2022: Claudia Alejandra Lemus Véliz.

Additionally, this year, the Faculty of Medicine decided to incorporate a new award category. It is the vision of the inmates, who have the perspective of those teachers who have marked their training trajectories.

The winners for best teachers, chosen by the inmates, are: Nursing, Paula Andrea Ligeti Stuardo; Kinesiology, René Eduardo Bustamante De La Fuente; Medicine, Ingrid Soledad Armijo Rivera; and Nutrition and Dietetics, Luis Edgardo Cortés Caroca.
