The Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Junta of Andalusia He pointed out this Sunday that in “key” specialties such as Neurology, Radiation Oncology, Family Medicine or Psychiatry “cannot offer more positions for Resident Internal Physician (MIR)» in response to the “refusal” of the Ministry of Health to “modify or make more flexible the criteria for accrediting new teaching units.”

In this context, Salud communicated in a note that the Board, in the last call, offered 100th of the accredited places in the specialties of Pathological Anatomy, Angiology and Vascular Surgery, Cardiology, Cardiovascular Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, Endocrinology and Nutrition, Hematology and Hemotherapy and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. As well as in Family and Community Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, Nuclear Medicine, Preventive Medicine and Public Health, Nephrology, Neurology, Radiation Oncology, Clinical Psychology, Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Radiopharmacy, Hospital Radiophysics and Rheumatology and Urology.

As a consequence, he stressed that «The Board can no longer offer more MIR places in these specialties“, while emphasizing that “it is crucial to increase the number of trained professionals in the community.” Thus, he recalled that the Ministry of Health “promised at the beginning of the year to sit down with the autonomous communities to study the modification or flexibility of the criteria to accredit new teaching units” and has indicated that “at the moment it has not done anything.”

Likewise, he demanded measures from Health “forceful” to “alleviate the serious deficit of health professionals». In this sense, he regretted that, after more than five years, the Ministry of Health “has not put measures on the table in response to the repeated request of the autonomous communities to increase the number of MIR places.”

In this way, he assured that This is not a request exclusively from Andalusia.but other regions such as Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Galicia, Castilla y León or Aragón, among others, have demanded from the Government of Spain for five years “an extra call for 1,000 MIR places per year for at least four years ».
