Spaniards are increasingly aware of the importance of taking care of themselves and leading a healthy lifestyle. Food, physical exercise and rest are the main pillars that contribute to well-being. However, Spaniards also consider that it is essential to reserve moments for leisure and disconnection. 68% affirm that moments of leisure and socialization improve their physical and emotional well-being and 61% prefer refreshing drinks at these times, according to data from the latest Healthy Eating Barometer carried out by Aecoc Shopperview.

Enjoying and taking care of yourself are complementary and interrelated, also when it comes to food. That’s why, 8 out of 10 Spaniards say that in their leisure time they prioritize flavor (54%) and foods and drinks that help them disconnect and enjoy the moment (44%) without giving up healthy things (35%). Furthermore, 40% of Spaniards consider that going out for a drink with family and friends is a healthy leisure habit.

“People who take care of themselves are clear that food is important, but that a healthy life goes much further. This makes them choose foods and drinks that help them take care of themselves, but also enjoy those necessary moments of pleasure,” he points out. Marta Munné, head of Shopperview studies at Aecoc.

Another fact that confirms the relationship between enjoyment, food and well-being is that 80% of Spaniards consider that the food and drinks they consume influence their emotional well-being. Among those products associated with moments of enjoyment and pleasure are refreshing drinks.

He Healthy Eating Barometer shows that the majority of Spaniards consume soft drinks as part of a healthy, social and active lifestyle. Furthermore, its consumption is carried out in the company (63% in the company of family and 59% with friends) and in moments of leisure and enjoyment. Specific, 33% consume them on weekends and other special occasions, 32% at celebrations and another 32% on outings and plans in bars and restaurants.

As explained by the general director of the Association of Refreshing Beverages, Beatriz Blasco Marzal: “These data are a reflection of the pattern of consumption of soft drinks in Spain, which is different from that of other countries around us, here soft drinks are consumed in a social context and fundamentally in hospitality, which is the main sales channel for soft drinks in Spain.”

Another consumer trend shown by the Aecoc Shopperview Healthy Eating Barometer is the preference for sugar-free soft drinks, chosen by 66% of consumers. At the same time, in more general terms there is a trend towards reduced alcohol consumption: 1 in 7 people claim to have reduced their consumption in recent years.
