This Tuesday morning, Pamela David invited Marina Charpentierthe singer’s mother Chanoa American Breakfast (America). In a talk about mental health, the host and the guest spoke openly about the fight against addictions that the musician has endured recently. In that framework, The presenter remembered her brother Franco, who took his own life in June 2020 after struggling with addictions to drugs. “I lost that battle“, he said, with tears in his eyes and feelings on the surface.
The interview was started by Marina’s words: “I come to bring the voice of the mothers who come to our groups for these problems. They are desperate because we do not have resources invested in mental health and we cannot escape the law”. In that sense, he continued before Pamela: “That law was not modified. It was written in 2010, when the government at that time embraced human rights. In that spirit of putting them in the regulations, of avoiding forcing the person to be hospitalized, or doing what one wants if they are sick, gave rise to a lot of articles that are absolutely harmful”.
For her part, the presenter noted: “In the desire to prioritize that right, since it was said that there were relatives who institutionalized their parents to keep everything. Well, they would have to analyze those cases. What they did was leave parents without tools”. On the verge of tears, David explained: “It happened to me with Franco, may he rest in peace. That’s why I invite people who manage to win that battle to this program. It’s the message I want to give”. At that moment, he took the opportunity to refer to the experience he had with his close circle: “We were lucky. He had a family present, the economic possibility of taking him to the best places, which many do not have, but we lost the battle. Franco used from a very young age and, when he turned 18, his parents could try to take him to other places. However, When you come of age you are left without tools. It was dangerous for him and for society”.
With a broken voice, the cheerleader recalled: “There was no way to take him to a center. I met many parents fighting for the same thing, and it had to be prosecuted. However, there were many loving people who took your case and helped you.” She also took the opportunity to mention the person who collaborated with her. “I am eternally grateful to Malena Galmarinishe helped me, she accompanied me to admit him. Afterwards we took him out, we thought it was better to insert him into society, but the reality is that it was not as simple as touching a button”, he launched after reflecting on his own experience.
“It’s something to cry about. Mothers come to the groups desperate and looking for an answer that we can give to some extent. However, There is no place in the State where they tell you that you can go, that you will find help, where they guide you, introduce you to psychiatrists, or guide you with treatments for the family.”, highlighted the guest.
And once again he referred to the content of the law: “Article 27 establishes that monovalent clinics must be closed, such as the Laura Bonaparte National Hospitalbecause having psychiatric hospitals is stigmatizing or saying that they are crazy.” With his well-defined posture, he declared before the cameras: “It’s quite the opposite”.
It should be remembered that this was not the first time that Pamela mentioned the hard struggle that her brother faced. Early last year, she was invited to LAM (America) and had a talk with Angel de Brito about it. “Drugs kill, and this problem is not only my family’s.. And it goes hand in hand with crime, at that time when it was Breakfast… I associated it and, although I have been wrong a lot of times with a lot of things, with that issue I was not wrong,” he explained, in those days, regarding the origin of the deceased young man’s addictions.
