New times for Tolkien’s saga on the big screen. The development of a new film from the ‘Lord of the Rings’ universe has been confirmed that will focus the story on one of its mythical characters: Gollum. In fact, The film has already revealed that it will have the nickname ‘The Hunt of Gollum’. Andy Serkis will not only repeat as the protagonist, but will also get behind the cameras as director. Although it still does not have a release date, it has emerged that Warner Bros. intends to bring it to theaters sometime in 2026.

Peter Jackson will also participate in the film as a producer, along with his usual scriptwriters: Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. Your participation will influence “every step” of the film, so it will not be anecdotal at all. “It is an honor and privilege to be able to travel back to the Middle Ages with our great friend and collaborator Andy Serkis, who has still unresolved business with Gollum,” Jackson shares in his first statements after discovering the news.

The films will take a different path than Amazon in terms of the universe they are building on the small screen. ‘The Rings of Power’ will continue as an independent branch within the enormous world woven by Tolkien and will not have any type of impact with what will be seen in the major feature film productions. In fact, Jackson has stressed on many occasions that he is not part of the Prime Video series project.
