‘Megalopolis’: Francis Ford Coppola shares the trailer for his ambitious four-decade passion project

‘Francis Ford Coppola’, director, producer and screenwriter of ‘Megalopolis’, has shared the first trailer of his long-awaited film in which he himself assured that he has been working on it for forty years. The video description already says it all: “It’s the best job I’ve ever had the privilege of directing.”

After a first teaser of the film recently came to light, the director has now uploaded the trailer from his own YouTube account. This new trailer begins with a voiceover reflecting on the decline of empires: “When does an empire die? Does it collapse at a terrible moment? No, no. But there comes a time when people no longer believe in it”before moving on to a Roman chariot race, a metropolitan landscape and scenes of protest.

The film narrates the destruction of a city inspired by New York after a catastrophe, and the subsequent attempts to rebuild it. at the hands of Cesar played by Adam Driver and Mayor Frank Cicero, played by Giancarlo Esposito, with very different objectives. Along with them, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Dustin Hoffman, Talia Shire and Jason Schwartzman, among others, complete the cast.

Not easy

The release of a Coppola film shouldn’t be news, but given the circumstances behind the film, it has been quite an achievement. ‘Megalopolis’ has had a very difficult time getting its premiere on the big screen, andbecause in the first projections the results were not as expected.

After reaching an agreement between Barry Hirsch, the director’s lawyer, and Vincent Maraval, president of Goodfellas, ‘Megalópolis’ has achieved distribution in Spain and will reach our cinemas through Tripictures. The film will be presented at the Cannes Film Festival and will compete for the Palme d’Or, although it does not yet have a confirmed release date.
