The details of Kate Middleton’s styling for her big day: inspired by My Fair Lady and combined with her children

Kate Middleton is back. After more than half a year without official events, and for the first time since announcing her cancer diagnosis, the Princess of Wales has reappeared in public to attend Trooping the Colour, the commemorative parade for the anniversary of King Charles III that, every June, takes place on Horse Guards Parade, near Buckingham Palace.

Her styling for this special day deserves some comment. Instead of debuting a dress as in most of the times she has attended this event, the Princess of Wales has chosen to recover one that she debuted last year, although transformed with some alterations.

It is the simple white design from the British brand Jenny Packham that Kate wore at one of the events held in May 2023 as part of the coronation of Charles III.

This time, the Princess of Wales has worn it with a black and white bow and a matching belt that seem inspired by the famous design by Cecil Beaton (royal family photographer) for Audrey Hepburn in the film My Fair Ladyas numerous commentators have immediately observed.

Also in black and white like that Hepburn style was the hat Philip Treacy that the Princess of Wales did debut this Saturday and the rest of the accessories: a black purse Mulberrysome white shoes Jimmy Choand the pearl earrings Cassandra Goad which she wore at the baptism of her young son, Prince Louis, held in 2018.

Her style, by the way, matched that of her three children. Princes George and Louis were dressed in double-breasted suits and loafers, while Princess Charlotte wore a sailor dress similar to the one she wore in last year’s Trooping the Color parade.

In most cases the princess has chosen designs by Alexander McQueen, but for her debut as a colonel she opted for a brand she had never worn before. These are all the outfits that she has worn in the great parade of the British royal family.
