For the second time in a rowalthough for different reasons, the 9th Book, Art and Culture Fair of Escobar’s party was rescheduled again. The event was going to take place from this Thursday until Saturday, but now it has been put on hold with a date to be determined.
The first to receive the bad news They were the writers and publishers who were going to participate in the meeting. “In the framework of the state of alert and mobilization and conflict in educational/university matters, the 9th Escobar Municipal Book Fair is suspended, subject to rescheduling. We regret this situation that exceeds the local and We hope to have a new date soon.”said the message that the Undersecretariat of Culture sent this Monday by WhatsApp.
Shortly after, the Municipality announced the measure through a press release. In that communication it was highlighted that along with the Book Fair the University Fair was also going to be held. Both events were canceled “due to the difficult time that public universities are going through and the national university strike announced for next Thursday.”
“These two events, which we organize simultaneously every year, represent a party for Escobar, but unfortunately cannot be done in this context of educational crisis in which the national government vetoed the university financing law and attacks the public education system as a whole”said Mayor Ariel Sujarchuk in statements released in the statement.
Originally, the Book Fair and the University Fair were scheduled for September 12, 13 and 14, in the Belén de Escobar station park. But weeks before, without official notice, they were suspended. Later it was announced that they would move to the Luis Monti municipal sports center. At first it was said that it would only last two days: Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th, but it was finally decided to add Thursday the 17th for the official opening.
“Both the University Fair and the Book Fair, two traditional events of the current municipal management and that make up Education Week throughout the district, will be rescheduled,” completed the statement released in the afternoon. The new date, for now, is not known.
Alejandro Vaccaro, Hernán Brienza and Felipe Pigna were some of the writers whose presence had been announced for the ninth edition of the Escobar Book Fair, whose completion, at this point, is already very much in doubt.
