Trail running is a specialty that continues to gain followers in much of the country and San Juan is one of those places where you can see hundreds of runners walking the streets or hills every day.

At the sporting level, we San Juan people have the possibility of having a significant number of very high-level representatives and proof of them occurred again this week when from the Argentine Athletics Confederation The list of members of the squad that will wear the light blue and white in the next continental tournament was announced.

He south american trail championshipto be held in Merlo, San Luis from November 21 to 23. San Juan will have three runners making up the national team in the long specialty: Andrea Názara, Facundo Nuñer and Franco Oro.

Franco Gold At the beginning of the year he traveled to Spain to spend a season on the European continent and, accustomed to occupying a step on the podium every time he competes at the national level, he already achieved it this year on Spanish soil.

From the city of Malaga, Spain, Franco tells us that next weekend he will run a 24 km race in support of a solidarity movement; On the weekend of October 19 and 20 it will be 42 km and on November 1 it will compete 145 km in Palma de Mallorca, a UTMB competition.

“I would love to be able to travel and represent my province and my country; Everything will depend on whether things work out to do it and being in San Juan to be able to work on the development of the career that I usually do: “Night Sky.” Then, the idea is to return to Europe to continue establishing myself in the competition.”

Facundo Nuñerborn in Buenos Aires, from San Juan by adoption, is currently the athlete in this specialty that stands out the most in San Juan and who was encouraged to run a UTMB competition in Brazil a few days ago and just a few days later he started the 160K in Córdoba, but the physical demand was too much.

His goal for the year is still to qualify to run UTMB in Mont Blanc, so he does not rule out some races outside the country to score the necessary points. The news of the call surprised him in a week of rest, after great demands, but already focused on the great commitment he will have in Merlo.

“60K is not a distance that favors me too much, for me it is short; I like longer races, 80K and up. Anyway, with 40 days of work ahead I am going to make a change in my work planning, trying to achieve greater speed and although it is a 60K race it has 2800 meters of positive elevation gain, it has long climbs and technical parts.

Beyond everything said regarding the distance, I personally feel that this year I had a good preparation in terms of my pace, that is why I ran the San Juan half marathon and was training the speed part. In short, I have a lot of faith in having a good race.”

Andrea Nazaraaccustomed to being in the first places in the competition she competes in San Juan, also stands out at the national level and last weekend she demonstrated it again, taking third place overall in the 55K ultra at UTACCH in Villa Yacanto, Córdoba and was second in its F30-39 category.

“I am very happy and excited with this achievement. A year ago I set the goal; I knew I could achieve it and I worked and trained to make it happen. I am very satisfied with the entire process and I will continue preparing in these forty days left for the competition.

I ran the UTACCH race with the aim of having good feelings and thinking about the South American race. I like the 60K distance, I feel comfortable, I know there are still things to improve, but this is just beginning, so I always keep my head in search of giving that extra boost in my performance.”
