
On November 10, 2023, the Directorate for Border Development and Integration accompanied the closing activity of the Association Agreement 009 of 2023, signed with the Departmental Sports Institute of La Guajira and the La Guajira Rugby League; which benefited 540 boys, girls and young people in the municipalities of Riohacha, Manaure, Fonseca, Hatonuevo and Barrancas.
The implementation of the ‘Cactus: Youth believes, I am a rugby player’ project is being supported through the Border Plan since 2021, which has made it possible to positively impact the beneficiaries, by providing comprehensive training and sports development, generating spaces for peaceful interaction and promoting leadership opportunities.
Likewise, protective environments and spaces are generated, which provide the safe development of boys, girls and adolescents, through the implementation of educational, sports and cultural activities during their extracurricular days, in order to contribute to the prevention of child recruitment by part of armed groups outside the law, teenage pregnancy, prostitution and the consumption of illicit substances.
The total value of the agreement was $309,944,000, of which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs contributed $229,944,000, with which sports equipment and implementation were delivered to teachers, monitors and beneficiaries; Technical, motor and value promotion activities are carried out, and festivals, workshops and tournaments were held.
