Faced with pressure from the authorities, migrant smugglers have drawn up new routes to try to reach US territory, and on this occasion, according to the Attorney General’s Office, they have opted for the route of Colombian Pacific.
The new evasive itinerary begins in the port of Buenaventura, continues to Bahía Solano, then heads to Juradó and finally ends in Jaque, in Panamanian territory, according to Javier Sarmiento, attorney general for Human Rights. This information was revealed during a meeting in Acandí, Chocó, where commitments made by entities to control the situation were followed up.
The deputy attorney general insisted on the need to reinforce the state presence, not only with police force, but also by increasing the staff of entities such as Migración Colombia and the ICBF. Every day, between 300 and 400 people, including children, adolescents and pregnant women, travel this risky route in their attempt to reach the United States.
