The phenomenon of El Niño causing rivers to rise is not new for Santa Fe. It is something that was talked about a long time ago, related to the flooding of the Paraná River, which according to advances from specialists, its height would reach alert levels in these weeks, without causing serious inconveniences. But in the case of the residents of the coastal area of The Return of the ParaguayanIn some homes the water has already entered.

ONE spoke with neighbors who expressed their concern about the lack of official responses to know if they will have any type of help beyond the sandbags that they have left on the streets of the neighborhood. Above all, if, as happened on other occasions, they will relocate the neighbors, but no one has been able to give them an answer.

Gracielaone of the neighbors stated: “Everything around my house is full of water. I had to take out the bags that have been left in the middle of the street with sand to make a path and be able to enter, because we are surrounded by water.”

But when referring to his concern at these hours he said: “We are asking if we are going to have help, if someone is going to come and help with something, but there is no answer. Or if they are going to move us to another place, but it is uncertain.” When referring to the water entering the homes, the neighbor stated: “My aunt, for example, started getting it last week and on top of that with the rain forecasts that is talked about, it scares us much more. In my case, from one day to the next, the patio of my house filled with water.”

Upon entering the neighborhood you can see that the water has taken over some streets and places, but especially at the back is the most complicated place. It is the lowest area and where the water reached the fastest. Those who live there were the first to seek refuge elsewhere. “What strikes us most is that during all this time, as a preventive measure, nothing has been done. At the last minute they arrived with trucks and sand bags and left them on the street”he claimed.

For her part, Nelly, another resident of the place but who had already left her house, He highlighted: “I had to come from my nephew who lent me a place to put the mattress and bed. My two children, my grandson and a little boy whose mother abandoned him also lived with me, who had to go out and look for a place because truly When we called because we needed help, nothing happened but it only arrived now with the water already in the streets and they came and only left the sand and the bags and nothing else. I didn’t know how or where to put them.”

According to the forecasts of the specialists, the river is expected to reach 4 or 4.30 meters in height, something that according to the same neighbor predicted: “It would cause my house to be more than half covered with water.”

Nelly stressed that this is not the first flood that has occurred in the Vuelta del Paraguayo. “I went to live in Colastiné for 20 years and a year and eight months ago I returned, and I never saw any repairs, not even taking care of seeing the state of the defenses in the neighborhood. It’s like we neighbors have to take care of ourselves. I don’t see that something has improved in the neighborhood in my absence, since it is the neighborhood in which my whole family and I too were born and lived.
