Magdalena Delegation achieved new medals in the 2023 National Games.

The Magdalena delegation advances in its participation in the XXII National Sports Games of the Coffee Region 2023, the most important sports event in Colombia, in which so far the departmental team has achieved two silver and five bronze medals.

The Samaria skater, Kerstinck Sarmiento, in 100 meters speed, and the boxer Fabián Hernández have delivered the two silver medals; while, the bronze medals have been achieved with Keison Gómez and Katherine Tobón, in boxing; Sebastián Salazar, in taekwondo-combat -80kg; Miguel Valencia, in Greco-Roman wrestling; and the women’s sports shooting team.

This positive result is thanks to the support received from the beginning of Carlos Caicedo, as governor of Magdalena, who permanently ratified the support of the Administration with the accompaniment of the athletes. The delegation that today competes for medals in the Coffee Region had the historic support of $3.1 billion allocated by Caicedo for sports equipment, transportation, hydration, lodging, food and medical supplies to guarantee the best preparation for the athletes.

Kerstinck Sarmiento, a Samaria skater, won a silver medal in the 100 meter sprint.

Likewise, the Magdalena Government has allocated a fund of resources to give to the athletes who win a medal in these events: $10 million pesos for a gold medal; $7 million to silver medals; and $5 million for bronze medals. Thus, recognizing the effort and dedication to raise the name of the Department.

It is necessary to emphasize that a large number of the athletes who make up the Department’s delegation are part of the High Sports Performance School, a program of the Magdalena Government, initiated by Carlos Caicedo; which has been key to supporting the athletes’ process and through nutritional, psychological, economic and methodological support to bring them to a high competitive level.
