“Due to the effects of alcohol, I apologize, but that is why I wrote to you.” With a voice modified by Autotune, the verse is sung by IcyCold, a rag picker who is gradually emerging from anonymity and beginning to be more widely known. The interesting thing is that, if he had not dedicated himself to the urban genre, Nicolás Álvarez, the artist’s real name, could have been a player for the University of Chile.

As is, from football to trap and reggaeton. At 19 years old, Álvarez decided that he was hanging up his boots and that the future was in the urban genre. Before that, he was one of the blue team’s projects.

“I remember that my brother took me to Caracol Azul, I was training, I stayed and they put me on the under 8 team. I was a teammate of players who stand out today in the U such as Lucas Assadi, Renato Huerta and even Darío Osorio,” said the young man. known for his badge, IcyCold, in conversation with Radio Biobio.

The football journey

Nicolás Álvarez came to the University of Chile as a child. Initially, the now former player played in the central defense position, standing out for his height. Then, over time, he also adapted to playing on the wing, standing out as a right back.

In the university team, Álvarez played tournaments and actively participated between the ages of eight and 17, stages in which he could see his growth as a player. Furthermore, he saw firsthand the development of his colleagues, including Lucas Assadi and Darío Osorio.

“When I arrived there was a child ahead, he was smaller and that was Assadi. I had to play against him, we laughed, now I feel that sometimes there is a lot of pressure on him because of his age, but I am happy for him,” said the ragpicker, who also had words of praise for Darío Osorio.

“Everyone there knew that he (Osorio) was from the region, we didn’t see him in all the training sessions. Even though he wasn’t with us as much, he arrived at the weekend and shone, his left foot was something else. There someone said, how does chucha do it? but you could already see his quality,” Álvarez recalled.

The U of Sampaoli

The blue youth player not only coexisted with the current promises of Chilean football, but also with those who achieved glory, back in 2011, when Universidad de Chile won the Copa Sudamericana.

“We used to watch Sampaoli’s team, Johnny Herrera, Pepe Rojas and one time, Edu (Vargas) invited us to ‘have a rally’ with Charles Aránguiz. We were little, almost the gifts in those years… It was something very nice,” recalled the new trap star.

“Also, I was with idols, historical references like Leonel Sánchez and Diego Rivarola, who later became in the youth teams. I talked a lot with him, when I was a kid I always wanted to celebrate a goal by taking off my shirt with Gohan’s on the bottom,” the former player closed, smiling.

Do you think that Universidad de Chile will be able to qualify for the Copa Sudamericana?

Do you think that Universidad de Chile will be able to qualify for the Copa Sudamericana?

Yes, the stars will align.

No, I prefer that they lose and that Colo Colo not become champion.
