Havana.— Health in Cuba is a basic human right, endorsed in the Constitution of the Republic and supported by the current implementation process of the Public Health Law, Carilda Peña García, Vice Minister of Public Health, affirmed today.

At a press conference on the occasion of World Health and Physical Activity Days, held at the headquarters of the Pan American Health Organization in Havana, the official highlighted the access of all Cubans to free, accessible medical care, regionalized and comprehensive, which promulgates intersectoral community participation as one of its principles, regardless of the race, creed, geographic and economic position of the people.

He highlighted the existence of more than 11,000 family medical offices and 491 polyclinics in the country, and asserted that despite the lack of medicines, supplies and technologies, due to the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the Island, primary care is maintained for the entire population.

Peña García expressed the control of communicable diseases, without complex situations, and stated that work is being done to reduce risk factors associated with the prevalence of diabetes, hypertension and bronchial asthma.

In response to the objectives of Sustainable Development as a prioritized program of the State and the Ministry of Public Health, the movement of municipalities, cities and communities for health is developed, where the principle of intersectorality is materialized to improve indicators and confront non-communicable diseases. , he stressed.

According to the Vice Minister of Public Health, together with the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation, the aim is to increase the work in bio-healthy gyms, areas for training, to enhance community activities, in order to educate and promote styles healthy lifestyle to avoid pathologies and drug treatments.
