For several months now, the traditional park in the Viveros neighborhood of Ibagué ended up becoming a white elephant. The park located on Ambalá Avenue ended up reduced to shades and construction materials.

However, The Mayor’s Office of Ibagué reported that the Ministry of the Interior issued a new payment for $368 million to finish the ‘Parque Sacúdete’ project that is being carried out there, which is expected to benefit some 24,000 inhabitants of the sector.

“We are waiting for confirmation from the municipality’s Treasury Secretariat to be able to restart the works and finish them, it is a project that is quite advanced,” said Jonathan Suárez, Technical Director of Infrastructure.

The project, which will have various scenarios such as a multiple court, tennis court, children’s games, stands, among other spaces distributed in a property of more than 4,000 square meters, registers with 60% execution progress. Now the contractor must present an updated schedule to resume activities.

The Ministry of the Interior made the second of four disbursements agreed for the project, which is equivalent to 20% of the total projected National Government investment worth $1.84 billion.

In turn, the Municipal Administration has made a contribution of more than $1,450 million. Once the money is reflected in the municipality’s coffers, the Infrastructure Secretariat will meet with the contractor to move forward.

Finally, the pending resource from the National Government will be disbursed in two payments, agreed upon when the work reaches 90% and 100% completion.
