After arduous work by the Cundinamarca Firefighters, the forest fires that hit the Eastern Province of the department have been largely controlled, reaching 90% containment.

Since the night of Wednesday, April 17, Firefighters have been fighting the flames in three different municipalities: Chipaque, Ubaque and Cáqueza.

According to what was collected by Ojo de la noche for Mañanas Blu, thanks to the tireless efforts of firefighters and other response agencies, the situation has improved considerably.

Captain Álvaro Farfán released details about the joint efforts to control the fires. “Immediatelye activates all the first response agencies of these jurisdictions at the head of the different risk management coordinators and municipal administrations,” declared Farfán.

According to Farfán, they are 90% contained and an investigation is being carried out to determine the causes of these fires, which according to authorities, could have been caused either by criminal hands or by out-of-control burning.

“At the moment we have 90% of these fires under control. We are currently establishing the different causes of them, which apparently were some caused by possible criminal hands and others by burning out of control,” he commented.

Although the strong winds during the night and early morning have represented an additional challenge, The joint work of firefighters and other response teams was crucial to achieving the current containment progress.
