They presented a precautionary measure against the DPEC energy tariff

The measure – presented this Wednesday, 04/17 before the judicial courts of the province – asks to stop the increases in rates applied by the provincial government through: Decree 390/2024 – Resolution 190/2024 DPEC – Resolution 09/2024 EPRE. It was formulated by a provincial senator from the Corrientes PJ and among the foundations it says that the Corrientes population, with the new rates, “must choose between eating or paying for electricity.” He also attacks the provincial government’s energy policy for not subsidizing or providing payment facilities to people to be able to access “a public right” which is energy.

The application of the new rates to energy consumption in the province received their first request for a precautionary measure to stop this measure. The presentation was made this Wednesday, 04/17 before the judicial courts of the province by a provincial senator from the PJ of Corrientes and among the foundations it says that people “must choose between eating or paying for electricity”, due to a 283% increase of rates with respect to the values of the end of 2023.

“Access to public services is a basic human right that the State must guarantee. That is why we oppose these increases that will be unaffordable for the majority of Corrientes and we try to stop them with this complaint,” says the provincial legislator.

Then he makes a political reading about the increase in the energy rate: “The governor supports the economic course followed by the Milei government, and on many occasions he said that he was in favor of eliminating energy subsidies. Eliminating subsidies means that users will have to choose between eating or paying for electricity. Meanwhile, President Valdés spends $600 million buying old planes from the United States. There is money, but not for the people.”

These increases in the cost of energy consumption for both residential and commercial use are added to another 500%, which is the cost of the urban bus ticket in the city of Corrientes, which this Thursday will go from $690 to $990 voted by the ruling party in the Deliberative Council. Majority also radical like the provincial government. This entire context of rate increases accompanies the resounding increase in prices of basic foodstuffs.
