In Colombia, the measuring earthquake intensity is done through the European Macroseismic Scale (EMS-98). Level 2 intensity is characterized by being “barely made sense” by a limited number of individuals in a state of stillness, while level 3 is described as “slightly felt”with the possibility that some objects experience movements.

A shock that reaches an intensity of 4 is recognized as being “broadly felt” inside buildings for the vast majority and to a lesser extent outdoors, involving the vibration of elements such as windows and doors. On the other hand, a level 5 event, considered as “strongly felt”causes the displacement of small objects and can cause minor damage, such as cracks, to structures.

An earthquake that obtains an intensity of type 6 is associated with a “slight damage”, which can even cause loss of stability in some people. Finally, the threshold for a level 7 is that of a “moderate damage” in constructions.
