A minor drowned (by immersion) when she was in the company of another girl who was rescued before she died under the same circumstances.

According to the authorities’ report, both girls belonged to the Wiwa ethnic group and were in the company of an adult who was highly intoxicated.

The event occurred at noon this Sunday, April 21, in the El Riito sector, at the mouth of the Ranchería River, on the beaches of the Riohacha District.

The lifeguards from the Guajira Aventura Foundation realized what happened, managing to rescue one of the girls, the other girl sank and lost track of her for 20 minutes.

After an intense search, they managed to find the minor, who was immediately taken to the river bank, there they gave her first aid, but she did not react, the girl was urgently transferred to the Nuestra Señora de los Remedios Hospital, where they tried to revive her but she didn’t react. Doctors confirmed her death by immersion.

It was learned that the minors and the drunken adult were residing as displaced persons in the facilities of the Indigenous House in Riohacha. The two minors were from the Las Nubes hamlet, in the Cascajalito district.

The minors’ relatives are dismayed at the Indigenous House. They still don’t know how they left this site without any authorization. The authorities are investigating this unfortunate situation.
