The people of Cali, since sunset this Sunday (04/21/2024), gathered at the traditional La Ermita church, where the route of the first free race of the Secretariat of Sports and Recreation of Santiago de Cali began, the ‘ 4.2k Historic’, which was not only exciting sportingly, but also culturally enriching.

Children, young people, adults, older adults, people with disabilities and pets, enjoyed the tour, with the breeze that characterizes the city, through representative sites of the historic center, such as: Plaza de Cayzedo, Calle de la Escopeta, Bulevar del River and the Cathedral of San Pedro, among others.

A commitment by Mayor Alejandro Eder to recover the center as a worthy place for the people of Cali. “Happy to be here in the historic center of the city, the Bulevar, La Ermita, the Plazoleta de San Francisco, the Calle de la Escopeta, the Municipal Theater, all decorated, the streets illuminated and through which we will continue to recover Cali,” said Felipe Montoya, Secretary of Sports and Recreation of Santiago de Cali.

The official added that “it was a spectacle, more than 2,000 people, pets, young people, adults, a whole party that does not end, it is the first of seven races that we are going to organize this year throughout Cali, we will end on December 31 with the San Silvestre and we are going to continue taking her out of the stadium to reconcile.”

Francisco Gutiérrez, winner in the men’s branch, said that “I have a preparation five days a week, in the morning I had been on the ascent to the Cali Tower and in the evening I came to finish off with these 4.2 kilometers. At 50 years old, nothing is easy, the boys were ahead and in the end I was able to overcome them.”

For his part, Carlos Santafé, from the Calima neighborhood, in Comuna 4, pointed out that “the tour was very nice, being able to tour the historic center at night, I liked it because it was very organized; I signed up quickly through the page, something very easy.”

Meanwhile, Gamadiel García arrived from Alto Nápoles, in Comuna 18: “racing seems very important to me for health and recreation, returning to the emblematic sites of Cali was very motivating, because despite living here one does not visit them ”.

Finally, Carolina Domínguez, from the San Judas neighborhood, in Comuna 10, said that “it is super important because we realize the investment that the Mayor’s Office of Cali is making in the area of ​​sports and recreation, the tour was very cool, since those of us who live in the city forget about this beautiful sector.”

The 2000 participants appreciated the Enrique Buenaventura Municipal Theater and the traditional Ortiz Bridge, with the colors of the flag of Santiago de Cali; the churches La Merced and the Cathedral of San Pedro, illuminated in white and the Centro Cultural Cultual de Cali, in yellow. With each step they felt proud of the city’s historical, architectural and cultural heritage.

The race met all the expectations of the people of Cali, a warm-up day, hydration points, medical assistance and one of the novelties, the awards by categories.
