The most recent of these events took place in the La Reliquia neighborhood, where a Police Deputy Superintendent, identified as Diego Armando Candia, was seriously injured when he was shot in the neck and chest while participating in community work at the sector’s sports center.
After the attack, the uniformed man was transferred to the health center in the El Recreo neighborhood, but due to the severity of his injuries he was referred to the Villavicencio Departmental Hospital, where he remains in a delicate state of health and with a reserved prognosis. This fact adds to two other previous incidents in different areas of the city, evidencing a worrying pattern of violence directed towards law enforcement.
In another incident, which occurred in the early hours of this Friday, where two uniformed officers were attacked with a traumatic weapon while carrying out patrol work. One of them was wounded in the buttock, while the other was saved by the bulletproof vest he was wearing. Both officers were taken to a medical center to be evaluated and their condition is reported to be stable.
After these events, units of the Special Operations Group and the Criminal Investigation and Police Intelligence section mobilized towards this area of the capital of Meta and carried out an intense intervention with the purpose of identifying the authors of this attack. Authorities are actively investigating these events.
The Mayor of Villavicencio, Alexander Baquero, expressed his concern about these events, although he has reiterated that official figures show a decrease in crime rates. However, the perception of insecurity among the population continues to increase, demanding concrete responses from the authorities.
In addition, offered a reward of up to ten million pesos for anyone who provides information about the authors of this attack.
