The Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB) of Venezuela dismantled an illegal mining camp in a town in the state of Amazonas (southern, bordering Brazil and Colombia), which functioned as a dormitory and warehouse for materials used for that activity, reported this Saturday the operational strategic commander of the military institution, Domingo Hernandez Larez.

Through X, The military official explained that the camp was made up of eight “improvised buildings containing dormitory-type structures.” and warehouse with logistical materials, used by criminal groups that violate the law, who, clandestinely, enter materials across the border.”

He assured that The purpose of these groups is to “destroy the protected green areas” of the Amazon, although he did not indicate if there were any arrests during the operation. Likewise, Hernández Lárez reported the discovery of a sector in that border region that “was beginning to be degraded by illegal miners,” where There were two motor pumps, 100 meters of hoses, another 100 meters of high-pressure hoses, an engine and 600 liters of fuel.

”In the state of Amazonas, according to our territorial legal system, mining and hydrocarbon exploitation is totally prohibited, and environmental conservation is a citizen’s duty. No national or foreign human group will be above the interests of the Venezuelan State“wrote the FANB commander in X.

These operations were carried out within the framework of ‘Operation Fog 2024’ which – according to the FANB – was created “to protect natural spaces”, such as “national parks and monuments, forest and biosphere reserves.
