With the participation of the boys and girls of Mendihuaca and Guachaca, the hotel sector, the Magdalena Regional Autonomous Corporation Corpamag, the CIM Caribe Foundation and the Marine Life Center, 70 turtles were returned to the sea, cared for and rehabilitated at the Rescue Center of Marine Fauna.

The species released correspond to the species Caretta caretta (loggerhead turtle), Erethmochelis imbricata (hawksbill turtle) and Chelonia mydas (green turtle), which have been protected by the Environmental Authority together with allies.

This activity had the purpose of carrying the message of conservation of sea turtles in the department of Magdalena, celebrating Children’s Day with the little ones and promoting in establishments and hotels the responsible use of lights, which have an impact on the protection of turtles and their nesting on the beaches.

It is worth mentioning that, on the beaches of Mendihuaca, is where the greatest nesting of turtles occurs at this time of year and that it is everyone’s responsibility to carry out actions aimed at caring for their nests.

Finally, with the above, Corpamag ratifies its commitment to the protection of marine fauna and ecosystems, which will continue to be a priority in 2024 and the environmental education processes will be linked to these activities, promoting love and good practices, for the conservation of all species.
