In a climate tense by two ideas, the reform of the political system and the tax reform, the October elections – in terms of names – remain anchored within each bloc. Evelyn Matthei remains firm in the trend of 30% accessions, with which she has headed the group of front runners. Respondents were asked: Of the following people, who would be a good president for Chile? Matthei scores 30.5%; José Antonio Kast scores 17.3% and Carolina Tohá, official, scores 12.7%. The next two of the group of front runners, Axel Kaiser and Michelle Bachelet score 5.3% and 5.2%, respectively.

In the election of governors in the RM (almost half of the national registry) the current Governor of the Metropolitan Region wins the majority of options on the list of possible candidates of all colors. Respondents were asked “if the election to elect Regional Governor in Santiago were this Sunday, would you vote for?” Claudio Orrego scores 30.5%, Macarena Santelices, 18.6%; Barbara Figueroa, 10.6%; Isabel Pla, 8.6% and Gabriel Alemparte 4.7%.

In fact, Claudio Orrego still appears in the presidential option, with a low rejection rate and good appreciation of management, but low score.

Respondents were asked “In general terms and regardless of your political position: Do you approve or disapprove of the management of the regional government of Santiago headed by Governor Claudio Orrego?” 50.3% approve, 35.6% disapprove and 14.1% do not know.

When asked the question: Who do you think is the main promoter of the Nueva Alameda remodeling project that includes improvements to public space, cleaning of facades and bike lanes, among others? In descending order, from highest to lowest, 42.8% say it is Claudio Orrego, 20.5% do not know; 12.9% say it is Irací Hassler (mayor of Santiago), 8.6% Gabriel Boric, 5.3% Carolina Tohá (Minister of the Interior); 5.3 None and 4.6% Felipe Guevara (former mayor of the RM).

In current affairs, although the survey was carried out before the tragic events in Cañete, respondents were asked if they believe that Ricardo Yáñez, director of Carabineros, should resign in the face of his future formalization or remain in office. Given this, 54.1% said that he should resign and 44.2% said that he should stay.

The survey is a weekly national survey carried out by SignosAnalytics in collaboration with the electronic newspaper The counter between April 22 and 26, 2024. It corresponds to a probabilistic sample of 1210 surveys for the national sample with a sampling error of 2.7; and 632 surveys for a sample of the Metropolitan Region, with a sampling error of 3.7 percentage points. Self-applied via the Web with the support of AI instruments to improve its efficiency to randomly selected samples expanded according to variables of sex, age and education. To measure and/or follow weekly relevant events of the situation and permanent political variables of national events.
