After four years of absence, the department of La Guajira returned to FilBo, with one of the most impressive stands due to its great multicultural and literary wealth, which they were able to enjoy and experience through the traditional event called ‘La Guajira Day’ on last Thursday, April 25 in the auditorium of the Colombia Pavilion of Corferias.

With a varied program full of literature, music and gastronomy, the great Day of La Guajira was experienced at the Bogotá International Book Fair – FilBo 2024, organized by the Mixed Fund for the Promotion of Culture and the Arts of La Guajira in alliance with the Government of La Guajira through the Directorate of Culture, Youth and Gender.

On this day that has become a tradition for the guajiros residing in Bogotá, the conversation ‘Sol de Letras de La Guajira para Colombia’ was held.

Space in which the five winning books of the call to stimulate literary creation Sol de Letras 2023 were launched, with the participation of four of its authors: Juan Manuel Gómez Cotes, Edgar Camargo Peralta, Elizabeth Pirela González and Jesús Iguarán Iguarán. The composer and writer Rosendo Romero Ospino could not attend for health reasons.

“We are very happy, we returned after four years going strong, we brought many writers. Through our lyrics we can show the wonder of a culture that today works and takes possession not only at a national level but at a global level.

Today we have writers showing our culture, speaking not only about our stories but also about a story of a fighting people that deserves good things to happen to them and that is what we are all working on,” Governor Jairo Aguilar said in the middle of the opening speech to the event. Deluque.

In addition, as a posthumous tribute, the work “Four Thousand and More Thoughts” by the recently deceased maestro Elion Fonseca Milián was also launched.

Just as the books “Luis Enrique Martínez ‘El Pollo Vallenato’” were presented, co-authored by Abel Medina Sierra, Emmanuel Pichón Mora and Julio Oñate Martínez; and “Dunaria” by Limedis Castillo Mendoza, works launched in 2023 by the Mixed Fund.

“Thanks to the invaluable support of the governor, the Mixed Fund for the Promotion of Culture and the Arts of La Guajira strengthens its departmental stimulus program to promote the symbolic potential of Guajiro cultists and resumes this fair, the FilBo, as a showcase of the letters and meeting of universal thought to put the written production of our provincial authors into dialogue with the literate world gathered here today,” explained Larry Iguarán, manager of the Mixed Fund.

For her part, the writer Elizabeth Pirela expressed: “My gratitude to the Mixed Culture Fund and the Government of La Guajira, for allowing the writers of the territory to live this experience, who were here to bring our book, our offering to humanity. , in some way to also reimagine a new territory.”

It should be noted that on this special evening, attendees were able to enjoy a direct relationship with the Guajira culture through Vallenata music and gastronomic samples typical of the region.

In the literary agenda of La Guajira at FilBo, the recitals ‘Verses from the homeland of the winds’ with the writers Edgar Camargo Peralta and Limedis Castillo Mendoza were also held.

The stand called ‘La Guajira: Magical Territory’, will be open to the public in the Pavilion six second floors of Corferias until May 2, so that visitors can enjoy the cultural magic of the department, where they can find more than 100 titles by authors local.
