BMW Chile is proud to announce that it has been recognized as one of the most responsible companies in environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters in the country, obtaining position 81 in the Merco 2023 Ranking. This achievement is a reflection of the continuous commitment of the brand with sustainability and responsible development in Chile.

The Merco Ranking, prepared by the Spanish consulting firm Merco, evaluates the performance of companies in six dimensions: corporate governance, social responsibility, ethics and transparency, talent, innovation and reputation. This year’s ranking was based on an analysis of 44,024 surveys of executives, opinion leaders, financial analysts and professors, as well as information from 24 information sources.

Concrete actions for a sustainable future

“BMW’s recognition in the Merco Ranking is based on the numerous actions that the company has implemented in Chile to minimize its environmental impact, promote social well-being and encourage responsible business practices,” says María José Saez, Marketing & Customer Manager. BMW Experiences.

Among them we can mention:

  • Resource and infrastructure management: Reduction of Type 2 emissions by 5%, Silver Green Building certification for the BMW La Dehesa Showroom, reduction of water consumption by 147,600 liters with sustainable gardens, and saving and reusing 90% of water in the Technical Service.
  • Neutralization of CO2 emissions and reforestation: BMW offers its customers the CO2 neutralization of the first year of its new vehicle, collaborating with sustainable projects worldwide. In addition, the company promotes reforestation in southern Chile through collaboration with official brand workshops.
  • Power management: Energy savings in branches through LED technology, installation of 32 solar panels in the BMW La Dehesa Showroom, and supplying 100% of the showroom’s energy consumption with renewable energy.

In addition to the above, 11 electric chargers have been implemented in BMW and MINI showrooms, installation of 10 public charging points nationwide, incorporation of electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles to 25% of the Company Cars fleet, and promotion of driving electricity at the government level.

It was developed from a TV program that promotes sustainable tourism, and BMWi’s pioneering participation in the journey from north to south of the country using 85% of the public charging network or hydroelectric plants, initiatives that add to education around electromobility.

In addition, BMW promotes the circular economy by reusing plastic bags from technical service to create works of art that are delivered as a Welcome Package to customers who purchase a BMW.

Finally, the brand’s social commitment has materialized in the signing of an agreement with the Santiago Fire Department to collaborate in the acquisition of the first electric pump in Chile and the development of an educational plan for the community focused on the safety of road electromobility. In addition to the donation of three electric chargers to the University of Santiago to support research in electromobility and the BMW Motorrad Association with Mutual de Seguridad to promote motorcycle road safety education.
