Alberto Delgado, State Security agent, was murdered by counterrevolutionary gangs on April 29, 1964; His covert actions allowed the deactivation of important gangs during the Fight against Bandits.
Only a few family members attended his funeral and three years later, on April 28, 1967, agent El Enano, a hero who fell in defense of his homeland emerged from the silence.
Gerardo Hernández, in statements to Prensa Latina, recalled how for The Five, the example of Alberto Delgado was an inspiration to stand alongside the anonymous heroes fighting for Cuba from prison in the United States.
The new generation of combatants ratified their fidelity to the Revolution, imbued with one of the most valuable fighters, of mambisa and rebel stock, who died like the heroes, without revealing his mission.
Julio Luis Jiménez, member of the Provincial Bureau of the Party, in his final words indicated that The Man from Maisinicú exposed his life when hard blows were given to notorious gang leaders who had murdered literacy teachers and farmers in Escambray.
During the tribute, Hernández awarded the Invisible Shield medal to Captain Dayron Jiménez, for excelling in the performance of his missions and for preserving citizen tranquility, as well as membership cards of the Communist Party of Cuba were given to prominent colleagues from various sectors.
Also present were Roberto Pérez, head of the Organization Department of the Central Committee and Deivy Pérez, first secretary of the Communist Party in the territory, both members of the CCPCC and Governor Alexis Lorente.
Alberto Delgado del Pino, son of Alberto and Hilario Delgado Delgado, one of the martyr’s brothers, also attended the ceremony.
Several generations of State Security fighters gathered on the esplanade in front of the hero’s monument, including some who had the honor of providing cover for Alberto Delgado.
