Mass layoffs in Los Andes newspaper, prior to the sale

All this occurs prior to the sale of the newspaper, since It would be the condition of the new owners to shrink the labor structure as much as possible.

At the entrance to the newspaper, security personnel and a clerk they have one list of employees of the Andes that, as they arrive, notify that have been fired. Others were previously notified not to go and that the dismissal telegram would arrive in the next few days.

“They accompany them to look for things and they leave”explained one of those affected post, who found out that he had been fired this morning, upon arriving at the Los Andes headquarters, on San Martín Avenue. The Press Guild also arrived there. “Some found out through WhatsApp,” he added.

At the same time, Los Andes decided to close the printing plant and lay off the staff at that property.. Regarding this, the company issued a statement: “From tomorrow, the copies will begin to be printed at an external plant.” And justified the extent to which it is a “global press trend to establish printing synergies”.

Since last year there has been an agreement between the current owners of the Andes (Clarn Group and minority partners of Mendoza) with a group of businessmen who will take control of the newspaper in June. Among these are the owners of Andesmar (Badaloni), part of the Barbera family (Broda Group) and the Alonso family, of Channel 9 and other media, and it is not ruled out that another businessman will join.

The agreement between the current owners and those to come would include the greatest possible “downsizing” of personnel and structure. In other words, with mass layoffs and the closure of the printing plant they will be paving the way for the new owners.
