Since Friday, hundreds of Correo Argentino employees received dismissal telegrams throughout the country in order to restructure the company. It is estimated that there are more than 800 and in Entre Ríos there are 16 employees who were left without work. Rubén Mastracchio, representative of the Correo Argentino workers, confirmed the layoffs and assured that the disaffected employees had between five and 40 years of seniority in the company.
Regarding the layoffs in our province, Mastracchio stated that “they were arbitrary, undeserved and without cause” and assured that the national government told them that “they had to reduce expenses” in all state companies.
“No one expected it, it surprised us, the telegrams arrived at the workplaces and each one fulfilled their role responsibly and efficiently,” lamented the representative of the Post Office workers. “We are a service company, excellence is only provided by the staff and human resources are the best investment you can have,” he expressed to APF.
He also stated that those dismissed had between five and 40 years of seniority at the Post Office and noted that “their family group was not taken into account, some have very young children.” Regarding the management part of the State company, he confirmed that those jobs were not cut.
“Taking into account the situation in the country, the future is uncertain and the policies that are being applied in the country are against the worker,” complained the representative of the telepostal companies and said that within the Post Office there are “very oversized expenses in other areas.” but not in the worker.”
Given this situation, Mastracchio reported that the Argentine Postal workers are in a permanent state of alert. Regarding the settlement of the layoffs, the leader assured that “it is very likely that it will come this week and, if the payments are not properly made, the respective claims will be made.”
Workers as adjustment variable
Regarding the situation in the country, the representative of the telepostal companies stated that “the adjustment variable is us” and recapitulated: “This reminds me of what happened at the end of the 90s where the government in power granted a concession to the company and it cost us a lot of money.” emptying with closures of commercial offices and 10,500 employees were fired.”

Regarding the way in which the Correo Mastracchio currently supports itself, he stated that it is through parcel delivery, which is often purchases made through Mercado Libre and that in recent times it has decreased a lot.
On the other hand, the Post Office sometimes cannot compete with other parcel companies due to their regulatory frameworks. Faced with this situation in other provinces, the unions have already issued a harsh warning to what they consider a “emptying” of the company, where all the logistics of delivery and the expense in hiring trucks is only to satisfy the demand of the octopus of that leading platform in online shopping.
