The Government of Javier Milei approved the purchase operation of 16 aircraft, 8 two-seater aircraft, components and services from the Government of Denmark and will pay a total of US$301,200,000 to be paid in five annual installments. Through Administrative Decision 252/2024, published this Monday in the Official Gazette, the portfolio headed by Luis Petri, communicated the approval of the expense derived from the contract between Defense and the Acquisition and Logistics Organization of the Danish Ministry of Defense.

Among the foundations of the purchase it is mentioned that “due to its large territorial extension and maritime coastline, it requires a National Defense System with immediate reaction capacity and sufficient scope to react to threats that move through aerospace.”

“The Argentine Air Force carried out a process of analysis and selection of different aircraft and concluded that the F-16 Weapon System, Fighting Falcon, and the proposal formulated by the competent body of the Kingdom of Denmark constitute the best solution for the Argentine Military Instrument. “, it was informed.

According to the administrative decision that bears the signatures of Petri and the Chief of Staff, Nicolás Posse, the expenditure of more than 300 million dollars “will be attributed to Jurisdiction 45 – MINISTRY OF DEFENSE, Subjurisdiction 23 – GENERAL STAFF OF THE ARGENTINE AIR FORCE”.

The signing of the contract with the Government of Denmark took place two weeks ago in Copenhagen. Minister Petri led the Argentine delegation and formalized the agreement, while the president followed the event by videoconference after having anticipated his return to the country due to the conflict in the Middle East. On Milei’s instructions, after signing the contract, Petri flew to Brussels, Belgium, to a meeting with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to revive the incorporation process as a “global partner.”

The bases of the agreement

Denmark’s decision to offer Milei the aircraft for purchase was made in coordination with the United States Government, which authorized the sale of the US-produced aircraft.

“You are transforming the country, you are bringing Argentina out of decades of decadence and you are taking the flag of freedom to all corners of the world and this is also felt and resonates here in Denmark,” Petri said in communication with the head of Argentine state on the day of the signing of the agreement.

Furthermore, through his social networks, he expressed that from today “Argentines once again have forces from heaven to protect us under the leadership of President Milei.” And he added: “And with the support of allies such as Denmark and the United States, Argentina acquires 24 F-16 combat aircraft, marking a milestone in its defense and strengthening its Air Force to preserve sovereignty and freedom.”
