“No more death to the samanes” Large sit-in this Tuesday in Ibagué

The Centennial Caregivers Network, in collaboration with various social and environmental groups in Ibagué, has called for an emotional commemoration in memory of the arboricide that occurred on April 30, 2022, which affected the city’s emblematic samanes.

“The objective of the commemoration is the memory of the 5 samanes that were cut down on April 30, 2022, two years have passed since this tragedy and the municipal authorities and the corporation that is Cortolima have not expressed themselves about the environmental damage and cultural” said Camila Reyes, environmentalist.

The event, which seeks to honor the memory of trees and raise awareness about the importance of their preservation, will take place on Tuesday, April 30 at 4:00 pm on Calle Décima between Carreras 6 and 5.

Centenario Park, considered a natural and cultural heritage of the city, is vital for the conservation of biodiversity and the provision of ecosystem services to the community. Its conservation is important for the ecological balance of Ibagué, housing a wide variety of flora and fauna species.

In this context, citizens and various groups call for the institutionalization of April 30 as a day of reflection on arboricide and to demand transparency and concrete actions from the competent authorities.
