“We have to show people that Chile can have high-level athletes in athletics…”

Diego Uribe enjoys a rising professional career. Last Sunday, the athlete achieved victory in the 10k category of the Santiago Marathonbeing crowned two-time champion of the circuit after also winning the 2023 edition.

Great present for the athlete, who also had a consecrated participation in the last Pan American Games in Chile. “As athletes, we have the task of showing people that Chile can have good level athletes in athletics”said the long-distance runner, in dialogue with As.

– Just like in 2023, you win the Santiago Marathon again, 10k category. Feelings after the race?

– It is always a pleasure to participate in this Marathon, it is the running festival in Chile and what better than returning to the center of the city. The fact that it is a circuit that begins and ends in La Moneda gives it a special meaning.

– How was your preparation for the circuit?

– Well, I am an athlete focused on the track, in 1500 and 5000 meters. I participated in the Pan American Games and we always put it on the calendar to be here in the 10k because it is a strong race, and in my case I develop very well in this distance. It is a pleasure to participate, because of the atmosphere and everything.

– Also, adding a two-time championship…

– Happy. Apart from that, the objective was to retain the title and it went very well, and I also had the pleasure of celebrating with the people in the last meters, which is also very important because this is a party and what could be better than taking athletics to the streets. The city was paralyzed by this, it is something that is rarely seen, only in the Santiago Marathon and the Pan American Games. That is the legacy that we seek to leave with the sport and we are on the right path.
