In a collaboration between CAR Cundinamarca, the Department’s Government, Risk Management, the Earth company and the Lazos del Tequendama Foundation, The first day of reforestation began in the municipality of Apulo, with the goal of planting 2 thousand trees.

The local community joined this initiative, participating in the reforestation of the Salcedo lagoon, a protected area due to its valuable historical heritage that includes more than 7 ancestral petroglyphs carved in stone.

Due to the high temperatures and lack of rain in Apulo, Cundinamarca, The Salcedo lagoon had lost its level in recent months, exacerbating the lack of trees in the area. This reforestation program began in response to this problem and is planned to be extended to other municipalities, with the objective of reaching all 116 municipalities in the department of Cundinamarca.

Osvaldo Vidal, manager of the company Earth Sostenible, highlighted the importance of this initiative in collaboration with various entities, especially after the serious forest fires that affected the region. The main purpose is to contribute to the recovery of areas affected by deforestation and forest fires, returning a little air to the planet.

For her part, the regional director of CAR Cundinamarca, Nidia Ortega, shared the corporation’s ambitious goal of planting 5 million trees in Cundinamarca and Boyacá during this period. This initiative seeks to recover areas damaged by deforestation in the 116 municipalities of the department.

Finally, all the entities involved called on citizens to avoid deforestation in protected areas and prevent new forest fires.
